What Type of Products SCRAP DOES and DOESN'T Accept?

As much as we would like for every garment to have an endless life cycle, there are some limitations to the clothing we can accept and ensure a new use for. Basically, we aren’t able to accept and process clothes that are:

  1. Dirty or smelly

  2. Wet or moldy

  3. Torn apart

But there are uses for even the oldest and most worn of your garments. No piece of clothing should be thrown away unless there is absolutely nothing that it can be reused for. Here are some examples of what you can do with the clothes that you can’t donate to SCRAP:

  1. Repair and repurpose: Stains or tears can be covered or used as an excuse to turn a piece of clothing into something completely new! We love easy guides and inspirations proposed by https://www.loveyourclothes.org.uk/refashion-upcycle. Pinterest is an amazing resource as well (follow us there!). If you don’t have time or interest in repairing clothes yourself, you can search for a local tailor or dry cleaner that can make the alterations for you.

  2. Use them for cleaning: If there is no hope of transforming your pieces into a new article of clothing, it will do great as a cleaning cloth. Just cut and tear into strips for tough or greasy cleaning projects.

  3. Start a fun DYI project: Use your imagination! Again, Pinterest is a goldmine of inspiration for creative projects to bring a new, sustainable touch to your home.

  4. Donate to animal shelters: Shelters can put your old sweaters, towels, bedding, and other textiles to use in the care of the animals they are sheltering. Some of your most worn clothing would be a welcome comfort to these animals.

At SCRAP we are on a mission to help save the planet by collecting unwanted clothes and diverting them from the landfills. As we want to be as transparent as possible, so we want to make sure that the clothes and accessories you are donating will end up in good hands, whether that be of recycling or redistribution partner.
